About
Robin Haig was born in Scotland in 1980 where she grew up way up a glen in the beautiful West Coast Highlands. There she had a unique childhood of mountain paths, highland dancing, fairies, sheikhs, argocats and occasionally living in Australia. She studied Fine Arts at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee from which she graduated in 2002.
Robin worked in the Scottish film industry for some years before making her own short films. Her directorial debt, Dear Dad, was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA New Talent Award. It is a poignant confrontation of her relationship with her father. Her second film, Saltmark, is a story of love, courage and growing up. The story was inspired by her Grandfather as she watched him suffer the consequences of growing old. Both films were selected for numerous film festivals including Edinburgh International Film Festival.
Robin currently lives in Amsterdam where she moved to broaden her horizons. Here she was selected to participant of The Bookstore. The Bookstore is a pilot project cooperation between a housing association, Stadgenoot, and the art duo, The New Collagists. The project combines artists in residence and social design in an urban renewal project. Since living in the city she has assisted and worked alongside the photographer, Pieter van der Houwen. They have worked on various projects including the book, Eten ZA/NL. Also in her new found land she was asked to speak about her work alongside Erik Kessels, co-founder of Kesselskramer, at What's Up, a creative night at Pakhuis De Zwijger after he named her an new talent. Robin maintains a close connection with the Scottish Highlands where she will one day return.
